9 Holiday Crochet Patterns

WeCrochet Magazine Issue 5 is out, which means: NEW holiday crochet patterns! Today we’re talking about the patterns of the Warm Wishes collection, our winter holiday crochet patterns collection, featuring 9 brightly-colored projects to carry you through holiday celebrations this year. Customize the color palette to suit your home or celebration for any of these projects.

Revelry crochet cardigan is one of WeCrochet's holiday crochet patterns shown with all the possible pocket options: snowflake, Nordic star, Christmas tree, snowman, menorah, kinara
The Revelry Cardigan has 6 customizable pockets that you can use to highlight your favorite winter celebrations

You can find all of these patterns in WeCrochet Magazine Issue 5. Each of these holiday crochet patterns is also available as an individual free download in the Patterns section of crochet.com. See the whole collection here: Warm Wishes Collection.

Now, let’s check out these fun crochet patterns!

The Revelry Cardigan

A model wears the Revelry crochet cardigan, a free holiday crochet pattern from crochet.com. A not-ugly sweater for the holidays.

Since we already sneak peeked the pockets above, let’s jump in by talking about the Revelry Cardigan.

“Ugly” sweaters are a staple piece at every holiday party and winter outing. This comfortable and cozy oversized cardigan pattern takes that idea and tones it down to an everyday wear garment. With a trim, wearable silhouette (suitable for anyone), its focal points are the pockets, which utilize large-scale cross stitch embroidery to add customizable wintertime icons.

Aside from the Revelry cardigan, the rest of the patterns in this collection are home decor or holiday decorations. Let’s check them out!

Holiday Crochet Patterns: Blankets & Pillows

These blankets and pillows are fun and colorful, and most of them will make great home decor accents long after the holidays are over.

This holiday crochet patterns collection has two blankets: the Holiday Lights Blanket, which features a flurry of white popcorn bobbles dancing across a multicolor striped throw, and the Tunisian Checkerboard Throw, inspired by the classic board game. The whole family can help to make it (hello, pom-poms!), and you can use a portion of the throw to play checkers when you lay it out on the floor like a game board.

We have three pillows in the Warm Wishes collection, each one featuring a different crochet technique: intarsia crochet, mosaic crochet, and filet crochet.

First up, the Holiday Gnome Pillow. Celebrating all the fun of the season, this throw pillow brings whimsy, color, and even a touch of fur to your holiday décor.

Next, the Winter Mosaic Pillow, which looks very intricate, but makes use of just double crochet, single crochet, and chains in an interlocking double layer (mosaic crochet).

Finally, the Warm Lights Pillow. A chunky openwork design on this pillow allows a background color to peek through, creating a two-layer lace touch for your home décor.

Finally, we have the colorful holiday decorations of the Warm Wishes collection, starting with the Color Pop Stocking. Make this pattern quickly with super bulky yarn (Tuff Puff), which means you can make enough for the whole family in a weekend.

Pom-Pom Tree Skirt

Coordinate your Color Pop Stockings with the Pom-Pom Tree Skirt, which can be quickly made in Brava Bulky and finished with Tuff Puff Pom-Poms.

And finally, some cute crochet ornaments for your Christmas tree. These work up quickly with just a bit of worsted weight yarn (we used Brava), so they’re great for stash-busting small amounts of yarn, and will also be great package tie-ons or small gifts for friends, coworkers, teachers, etc.

Adorn your tree with this adorable Reindeer Amigurumi Ornament! This super cute reindeer will look great on any Christmas tree, wreath, or garland, or as part of any winter décor.

Add some Snowcapped Tree Ornaments to your holiday or winter décor. This adorable amigurumi tree will bring the beauty of a winter wonderland to even the warmest of winters! Stitch this simple tree in one piece with no assembly required.

A vintage classic for every Christmas tree, crochet your very own ball ornaments to cherish for years to come! Worked as one piece in continuous rounds and embellished with simple embroidery and surface crochet. This simple, classic Holiday Bulb Ornament is a quick project that makes a beautiful gift or wonderful heirloom-worthy addition to your holiday décor.

9 Amazing Free Home Decor Crochet Patterns

WeCrochet is home to so many great free home decor crochet patterns, including our newest patterns in the Comforts of Home collection. We recently shared a few of those new crochet patterns from our Fall issue of WeCrochet Magazine, but today I want to highlight some of my favorite beautiful AND free home dec crochet patterns available at crochet.com!

9 Free Home Decor Crochet Patterns

1. The Barrington Pillow

Closeup of crochet texture in gray featuring bobble stitches in a diamond formation. One of our free home decor crochet patterns.

The Barrington Pillow is a pretty crochet pillow with a geometric bobble stitch pattern. We’ve seen a few people complete and post about it on social media already! Leah Gordon designed this pattern (@iplaywithfiber on Instagram). The photo below of an adorable doggie enjoying its new pillow is courtesy of @maddiey.

2. The Linwood Place Blanket

closeup of a crocheted blanket in off white with a diamond pattern on it

We were still working in the office (and not from home) when the Linwood Blanket sample showed up, and I remember how much we all loved it — this blanket is uniquely stunning in person. A twist on a motif-style blanket, it’s made in a super squishy yarn: Simply Cotton Organic (nothing but cotton!). This would be a stunning heirloom quality quilt to make for a beloved friend or family member.

Rachel Beth designed this blanket (@rbscrochet on Instagram). She made her own colorful version of the blanket:

3. The Ashmont Aran Afghan

Closeup of the texture of a gray crocheted blanket with intricate cables, bobbles, and basketweave stitch. An impressive one of our free home decor crochet patterns.

The Ashmont Aran Afghan is similarly stunning, but instead uses a combination of textured stitches to create an extremely lovely final blanket. I highly recommend you download this free pattern and try it out if you are an intermediate crocheter.

So far, nobody on Ravelry has tried making this pattern yet… will you be the first?

Now let’s talk about some other free home decor crochet patterns from some of our previous collections!

4. The Hexie Bee Throw

A cheerful yellow and gray blanket spread on a bedspread. It's punctuated with hexagons featuring a bee motif.

The Hexie Bee Throw was one of the first patterns we released, from our Fall 2019 Modern Brights collection. It’s so happy and fun, yet still has a modern edge that keeps it from being too kitschy. This fun design is by designer Dawn Curran (on Instagram as @thealmondsnug).

We think this project is a great one for taking along in the car with you. Those tapestry crochet bee motifs are small enough to be quick and fun to complete.

5. The Sliding Doors Pillow

Alexandra holds a finished crocheted pillow, made in gray with white and black rectangle motifs. This is one of our free crochet home decor patterns by Two of Wands.

The Sliding Doors Pillow is a free pattern written by designer Alexandra Tavel of Two of Wands. She designed it to go with her brand new yarn line Hue + Me (which we are very excited to carry on crochet.com!)

Dueling steps of color accent a simple background to create this graphic decorative pillowcase. The beginner-friendly pattern utilizes easy color changes and basic stitches for a modern look and quick project. Interested in this yarn? Alexandra has several free crochet patterns for garment and accessories designed for use with Hue + Me, in addition to her free home decor crochet patterns.

6. Tunisian Monstera Blanket and Pillow

A green and cream blanket and pillow featuring a large monstera leaf motif draped on an outdoor chair. A Tunisian crochet free pattern.

We even have free home decor patterns that are perfect if you prefer Tunisian crochet (or if you’d like to give it a try). One of my favorite patterns from the Viridescent collection is the Tunisian Monstera Blanket & Pillow pattern by Miroslava Mihalkova (@exquisite_crochetuk on Instagram).

7. Geo Potted Plant Covers

A group of potted plants show off the multicolored Geo Potted Plant Covers

Because I’ve become something of a Plant Mom, I love these little Geo Potted Plant Covers, which are designed to go over plant pots you already have. This is such a great way to cover those plastic pots that plants come in and dress up your plants in colors that work with your home decor. This design is by Kate Alinari (@katealinari on Instagram).

8. Urban Garden Throw

A stunning crochet blanket with multi colored round flower-like motifs is draped over a dresser.
Urban Garden Throw

The Urban Garden Throw is one of our favorite blankets to make when playing with color. The fun part is that this pattern works well with Brava Mini Packs: 24 curated colors are available in a mini-pack. Just choose your background color in Brava Worsted and pair it with your favorite Brava Mini Pack for easy color play. Maria O’Keefe designed this pattern– see below for her version, using a very different color story (and those adorable pom-poms on the hem!).

The same flowers throw in white with red, blue, yellow, and green floral motifs.
See this project on Ravelry.

9. Corner-to-Corner Afghan

A corner to corner crocheted blanket draped on a couch.

Finally, we had to include the Corner-to-Corner Afghan designed by our own fearless leader, Sara Dudek. This pattern provides an introduction to C2C, and is therefore a great pattern to start with if you want to learn this technique. It’s inspired by classic quilt designs, but has a modern edge that would look great in so many different styles of home decor. What colors would you choose?

It was hard to limit our home dec pattern list to only nine. What did you think? Did you see any patterns you’d like to try to make for your own home? Let me know in the comments!
