This week we are learning how to crochet the Single Crochet Back Loop Only stitch (sc BLO). Join us for our new series, where you’ll learn a new crochet stitch every week!
BQUEEN COLLECTION #TOTALLYTEXTUREDTUESDAY
Hi! It’s Makenzie from BQueen Collection, I’m so excited and honored to guest post for WeCrochet for the next 12 weeks in a new series called “Totally Textured Tuesdays.”
Every Tuesday, I’ll share a crochet stitch that I love and think you ought to know about. The stitches will increase in difficulty as we go along, perfect for the adventurous beginner who wants to expand their stitch knowledge but also for the experienced maker to revisit these versatile stitches for new inspiration. So, grab some yarn and your favorite hook, and let’s get texturized!

We want to see it! If you try any of the stitches with us during the series, tag us @WeCrochetOfficial and @BQueenCollection AND use #totallytexturedtuesday so we can share!
WEEK 1: SC BLO / Single Crochet Back Loop Only
To kick off the series, we are starting with the most basic beginner stitch: single crochet. However, this particular stitch has a twist on it that you may or may not have tried before, which is to crochet through the back loop only (blo) in every stitch. This creates a stretchy ribbing full of texture, most often used on cuffs, collars, and borders. The best part? No thinking involved with this stitch pattern – just one repetitive stitch over and over, row after row. #thatwaseasy
Any yarn or hook will do, but here is what I am using:
- WeCrochet Wool of the Andes Superwash / Amethyst Heather
- BQueen Collection Blend Hook in Zebrawood / I – 5.50mm
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- blo: back loop only
- sc blo: insert your hook under the back loop only (not both loops as you normally would) of the next stitch, complete a single crochet
Row 1: Ch to desired length, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch1, turn.
Row 2: Sc blo in each sc across, ch1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until desired measurement.
A very basic and easy stitch to get us started on this texture journey! Thank you for joining me and I’ll see you next week for a Totally Textured Tuesday.
